Not sure if this is the correct section to place bug reports but BHspin2_1_windows_intelx86 fails to idle when computer is in use. It's using about 15% of my CPU resources when it should pause. While BHspin fails to idle, it also does not add to progress complete so I assume it's a hanging process or something. I'm not well verse into the deeper parts of the application but restarting the PC or closing BOINC clears the WU.

The WU application is Universe BHspin v2 0.01. WU Name is universe_bh2_160803_201_16639984_20000_1-999999_640200_3

PC specs are:
Windows 10 x64
Version 1709
OS Build 16299.19
AMD FX-8320E
16GB DDR3 2133
Radeon R9 Fury Nano

Welcome to the club. It appears that you are looking at another aspect of the "long runner" problem.

Look like the issue is only for user with Windows10 x64 ...

I'm getting the same thing now for the last few weeks.
I log out of the client or however you want to call it and then exit BOINC via the menu.
When I go to cool down my system for the night before shutting down I notice it is not cooling off.
I check task manager and I have one or two BHspin tasks still running despite BOINC manager not running and the local client being logged out.

How the heck can tasks still run without BOINC manager? I thought that was needed?

The BONC manager is just a handler. It doesn't actually run the tasks themselves. Each project has their own apps which BOINC calls to do work and monitor. Sometimes the app doesn't properly report and BOINC thinks it has shut down while it continues to run on its own. It's not a problem exclusive to Universe, but it has been plaguing Universe for some months...

I'm going to have to check if this work properly within BOINC. If not then I have to explore what I can still do for universe at home outside of those tasks. If nothing then I have to leave. Because my system is getting bogged down by something in BOINC and I have not monitored it other than at shut down. Talking about locking my system to the point where I have to hard reboot.

BIOS update solved the above problem of memory usage and system lock.
There was a stability issue that was corrected with this last update.

In BOINC Manager/Options/Other options, select "Enable Manager selection dialog?". When you next shut down, there should be an option to exit the client too. Otherwise, it just keeps running in the background (on purpose).

Thats not what the user means. The problem is if a task is stopped for whatever reason there is still 100% CPU thread usage. The task/app is the issue, not BOINC manager/client problem.

mmnonnin is more or less correct. After Boinc is shut down and exited, BH Spin tasks remain crunching outside of BOINC. I have to go into Windows Task Manager and kill them manually to get the load of my CPU so I can cool my system before shutting down for the night.

I thought they were a cause of excessive memory usage, but that seemed to be a BIOS/MOBO issue. Since the update, memory usage is down. Just to give myself more space in the memory I added another stick of 8 GB which was not cheap. Dang Bitcoin miners!

I'd blame the DRAM prices on 1) the lack of recent fabs coming online in the past several years, 2) Phone DRAM and NAND capacity increases (millions of phones sold each year with now 4-8GB of DRAM and 64-256GB of NAND), 3) SSDs going into more devices,4) Cloud servers and cloud storage. In my area there have been several new cloud based server farms go up. Enough to force new power lines going straight to them. 5) Bitcoin mining

NAND and DRAM basically use the same fab capacity. Fabs can run both and switch a bit between.
