Hi. This week I noticed variation in my task times. Typically 2.5 hrs/task. Now it has been in the 3~4 hour range. I saw one task complete in 1.25 hrs. Credit is same per task. Any ideas as to why? Thanks. |

Different parameter sets. Not an issue. The tasks vary from slow to fast back to slow repeatedly based on the parameter sets. A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Thanks. I probably didn’t notice until now since I haven’t been on that long. |

Also the brownie points are fixed at some multiple of the speed of a vinyl LP. |

LOL. On that note, I did notice that at certain times of the day I wouldn’t get credit and that would be corrected the next day. Thanks. For now, since the machine I use the most isn’t powerful, I’ve decided to move away from this project. My old beater may die waiting for these tasks to finish. ;) |

Well personally I would say your times are perfectly reasonable. All my hosts are fairly elderly, most are raspberry flavour, and all have a CPU core temperature limiter running on them (either TThrottle or my own script, https://universeathome.pl/universe/forum_thread.php?id=625). All reliably complete well within the U@H time limit. |

Also the brownie points are fixed at some multiple of the speed of a vinyl LP. One of my machines hasn’t been on since the 26th but I still see credit being added to it. I’m guessing this is an example of what you meant? That such “true up” is done long after the work has been submitted? |

Your long-finished pending validation tasks eventually get a wingman validation and you get your credits. The tasks have a two week deadline and some hosts overcommit and never finish and report the work they are sent. Then their task gets sent out again to a new host and the 2 week clock starts again. It is not unusual for tasks from 6 months ago to finally be validated and you get your credits. That is why you were getting credits when you haven't processed any work in weeks. Your wingman eventually showed up. Nothing unusual here. This is the way it works at almost all BOINC projects. Only a very few projects issue work with single validations necessary.
